Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
